7.0 - When to upgrade from 6.5?

I only have a single SA2500, it's not heavily utilized but it means that I don't really have a test environment.

So, 7.0 is out and I figure if they go from 6.4 to 6.5 to 7.0 it's a pretty significant change.

How is it for an R1 release?

From what I can make out from the guides the main change is the integration of an RDP client for OS X (a big deal for me personally) and the change to Junos Pulse, which seems difficult to gauge without actually trying it.

I'd be interested in any feedback as the forum seems strangely short of posts on 7.0?

Re: 7.0 - When to upgrade from 6.5?

We've upgraded several live site's (standard SA2500 units) to the 7.0r1....and should say...not too bad! Smiley Happy

Upgrade went smooth / and activating the Java client was easy.

Migrating to Pulse (from NC) takes longer, but they run great next too each other (just use different roles)

Some cosmetic bugs, but that's almost 'default' in a Juniper .1 Release.... Smiley Wink

Re: 7.0 - When to upgrade from 6.5?

Migrating to Pulse from Network Connect? Is Network Connect removed completely from 7.0? I think Network Connect would be my only issue even though I have very few that use it. I guess I'll wait till release 3 or 4 before I think of going up to 7.0.

Re: 7.0 - When to upgrade from 6.5?

Is there an upgrade/migration guide somewhere?

I presume it's just a case of upgrading the package but I'm unclear what (if anything) I need do immediately after i.e. what will stop working if anything?

The key things are that Network Connect still works, and that Citrix bookmarks still work, or work with minimal reconfiguration.

Re: 7.0 - When to upgrade from 6.5?

Network Connect is very much alive and well. Now under the role definitions you have two options. NC or Pulse - you choose - existing roles of course remain defined as NC.

I have upgraded a few of our customers and my own production box and find it to be pretty darned stable (as was said previously - for a Juniper .1 release Smiley Happy

It is worth it for the RDP and Pulse.

Re: 7.0 - When to upgrade from 6.5?

The only "upgrade" guide is the release notes. It is a very straightforward release. The new features are just that - new and have to be implemented to be used. The usual caveat of taking a backup of your user and system data of course applies.

Re: 7.0 - When to upgrade from 6.5?

as @mutt_barker said, the only documentation is the release notes for "where from" and then the admin guide contains the "how."

It is not expected that you will need to do anything upon upgrade....other than configure the features you want to use. Network Connect, Citrix, etc still work as-is; the only difference is that users will get a new client pushed when they connect (default, can't change behavior).

Re: 7.0 - When to upgrade from 6.5?

i need some help, we have 1 pair of SA 4500 VPN boxes and other 2500 VPN boxes and both pairs are configured in HA.

we are going to upgrade the OS from 6.5R5 to 7.0 and juniper has sent us the link to download the 7.0 OS, please inform whether same OS will work for both pairs i.e. 2500 and 4500 and if i first upgarade the standby box of HA pair than will it automatically upgrade the active box or not ?

Kindly reply.

Re: 7.0 - When to upgrade from 6.5?

Yes & yes.

There is no different OS needed for the different hardware types.

When the upgrade is done on the cluster, the software is upgraded on the first device and then, once complete, the software is pushed to the remaining device
