I have a pair of sa4500's in A/P clustering.
I have about 680 activesync clients connecting to an internal exchange 2010 infrastructure through the cluster. I have another 250 users average connecting as web users or pulse connections. All told we will say 930 or so users on a given day. Since the 4500 only supports 1000 concurrent connections, am I about to hit the ceiling?

Hi Matt,
If the number of active sync users exceed 1000, you will get an error in the device logs and the extra users will get dropped, but as for 1000 concurrent users + 1000 active sync users, that would really depend on the usage of the RAM, for example number of NC tunnels, size of ACL's, heavy rewriter based web applications etc
If your Activesync+UserAccess count hits 1001,users will not get dropped but memory and cpu usage might increase based on the usage of the RAM

Active sync usage does not count towards user's license, the maximum though depends on the memory size
for SA4500, it has a 1 gb RAM so the maximum user for active sync will be 1000

Are there estimates for other models? Is this dependent on how many "non-Activesync" users are logged into the device?

Thanks for the answer. Just so I can be cliear, is the connection count cumulative with user access and active sync? I'd guess that is the case based on the memory considerations. If our Activesync+UserAccess count hits 1001, what happens? Does the overage get dropped?
