Do I Really Need To Do An XML backup?

Greetings,

I have 3 SA boxes at my current job one SA4000,one SA6500, and one SA2500. Im currently doing a backup of each box. My question is. Would it just be sufficient to export the system and user cfg files only or should I export the xml files also? I honestly dont think I will use the xml file ever but I just wanted see who uses this file as a backup?

Frankly the only time I have ever used XML was a tool for manipulating configurations external to the box. For pure backup / restores I always just grab the user / system config files.

The XML file is quite handy if you ever want to get into automated data loads, but I have the user / system files to be very effective and also have used them to move from one system to another, one platform to another ......

No; the XML backup is good for having a human-readable file, but that's it unless you are trying some specific config changes as muttbarker stated.

You cannot move the config (easily) from system-to-system( in addition, it does not contain all information (even if you cold use it easily for config moves).

User.cfg (realms, roles, ACLs, auth policies & servers, etc) and system.cfg (licenses, network settings) are how to keep a usable copy of the config.
