Avast 8 Free on Windows 7 works for me with ESAP 2.3.8.  I didn't know there was Avast 8 for Mac, but the Avast 7 free for Mac (build 38501) works on me with 2.3.8.  On the mac version, you have to turn off/on the file/system/web shields once for it to be detected.
