Extremely Slow Uploads From Network Connect Clients

We are using MAG4610 7.3R6 and testing the same laptops on network, on VPN and off network.  We are seeing what appears to be a SSL VPN issue and want to confirm if others are seeing the same.

When testing on network we are testing from the same switch the MAGs are on and the same firewall.  The clients are not going through the MAGs for this test.  Download speeds are in the 60 ~ 80 Mbps range.  Upload Speeds are in the 60 ~ 70 Mbps range.  This is using the standard speedtest.net and megapath.com/speedtestplus sites.

We then performed the same test at an off site facility using a similar link (100 Mbps) with very similar (symmetrical) results.

But when we use that same connection via Network connect our upload speeds drop down to 3 ~ 6 Mbps.  We then tested via various other providers with different link speeds and while the download speed seems to vary with the link speed, the upload speed is always in the 3 ~ 6 Mbps range.

Has anyone else experienced this and is there a decent way of troubleshooting this on the MAGs?

Hi,

Are the clients connected via ESP/SSL mode?

If using SSL mode, disabling gzip compressions under system options may help.

All clients we are testing with are in ESP mode.

If anyone can just confirm that their uploads are as fast as their downloads - assuming the up / down on the pipe is the same, that would at least be a start.

Yes, we are also facing similar to this issue.. ours is 30 Mbps leased line and after connecting the remote VPN using Pulse Secure Network connect 8.1 the speed drops down to 2-3 Mbps.

Hi a.alex,

 

Is this a new issue due to a recent change?  8.1 is an old release so I'm trying to understand what happened, or did you just notice this issue?  Did you check the stuff mentioned previously in this thread, like split-tunnel, ESP vs. SSL, etc.?  Is this happening on other machines, certain locations (home vs internal from corp), etc?
