Failing Simultanous Connection of VPN and JSAM via Pulse Client on Ubuntu 18.04

I am setting up Pulse on Ubuntu 18.04 and trying to access the company network (VPN) and a SAM tunnel to another host in parallel. This works perfectly fine for me on Windows.
But the Ubuntu package only allows to initiate a single connection. When trying to connect to any other endpoint the Pulse client is only returning: "Company VPN is already connected". Basically telling that only a single connection is possible.

Our IT Helpdesk documentation says: Pulse client version 9.0.3 and newer is now supporting simultaneous L3 (VPN) and L4 (SAM) tunnels to different PCS Gateways.
Does this only apply to Windows?

Are simultanous VPN and SAM connections actually supported by Pulse for Ubuntu 18.04? If yes, could you please let me know how to set it up. If no, what is an alternative solution for Ubuntu?
