From SA standalone to lease license model..

Hi,

Is it possible to transform a SA series from standalone model to lease License-Member model?

Let's say we have a SA4500 with 100 user license, can it become a License-Member (as part of the lease license server/member mode)?

It would be release noted if there was an issue.

Re: From SA standalone to lease license model..

Thanks for the tip, Kita and Kevin...

Is there a module/announcement on Juniper elearning portal, whenever there is a update?
Or should we refer to the Release Notes?

Thanks!

Yes.  You would just need a member license.

Thanks, Kita.
Let's say we have a SA4500 with 100 user license and it become a License-Member, can we set the SA4500 license count to 50 (instead of 100 perpetual license installed)?

Re: From SA standalone to lease license model..

Yes.  In the scenario if you have 100 user license already installed on the SA-4500, you can surrender the license to the license server, then configure the license member accordingly.  This means the license server will determine the user count depending on the values set for reserved, incremental and max count for the license member.

Re: From SA standalone to lease license model..

I"m very currious about this.  We have a cluster of SA4500's with 300 user licenses between them.  We were investigating adding a WAN site with a Mag 4610.  Our plan was to buy a Mag2600 and a Mag4610.  Member licenses for the clusted SA4500's and the Mag4610, and a server license for the Mag2600.  Then we could redistriute the licenses we had on the cluster across the platform as needed.  We were informed by Juniper sales organization that we would have to rebuy all of our client access licenses and there would be no transfer.  Esentially we would have to walk from 3 years of investment to use the enterprise licensing.   Did I misread the response here that the user access licenses should be able to transfer with the purchase of the proper enterprise licenses?

Re: From SA standalone to lease license model..

Hello Matt,

I am not sure what situation you are in, but licensing was changed from permanent-based to subscription-base licensing models. In either scenario, you can use both types of licenses for the licensing server scenario.  The main difference is the permanent license will need to be surrendered to the license server first to be used by the licensing server.

You can refer to page 7 about surrendering and recalling perm. licenses in a license server model

Re: From SA standalone to lease license model..

To futher expand on what kita said - only licenses of type "access-. . ." can be surrendered. The older SA license types cannot be surrendered and would have to be abandoned if moving to the license server model.
