We have had a few instances of users attempting to log in and the Host Checker installs but fails to run on the system. The browser page for the host checker stays there and it never finishes running. We have tried with multiple browsers, IE, Firefox etc with the same results.
Is there a doc that lists out what must be enabled in the browser/os for host checker and network connect to operate correctly?
For system in our office that have run into this issue we usually reload our standard image, which works, and call it a day. For many of our remote client workers, this is not an option.
Thanks,
The supported platforms guide is the only item that provides something like this.
What IVE OS are you using?
What are you checking for with Host Checker?
If the user clears the browser cache & cookies, does the behavior change?

I checked the doc and all of the requirements are met.
What IVE OS are you using?
7.0R2 (build 16499)
What are you checking for with Host Checker?
AV and Firewall
If the user clears the browser cache & cookies, does the behavior change?
None
If users are utilizing IE 8, is DEP enabled or disabled (Tools>Internet Options>Advanced, Security>Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks); if enabled, can you disable to see if a different behavior is observed?
Did you find a solutin to this issue? We are getting reports of the same issue from some users in Asia.
IVE OS 6.5R4.1 (build 15977)
@dcvers: can your users disable DEP to see what happens?
We have seen the same behavior. All instances were fixed in our environment by either clearing browser cache and/or java cache and making sure that proxy settings set were unchecked prior to connection on the corporate laptops. Running v 7.0 R1
we've had this annoying problem with multiple IVE OS versions and still have it from time to time. only way to solve it was to manually uninstall and remove all juniper components and reinstall them again.
instead of developing new features with every release, juniper networks should fix those existing issues, that last for years now...
hostchecker and network connect should be less sensible, more stable and reliable and not so depending on the different client-configurations. dont misunderstand me, the juniper-system is great but from my experience other VPN-software isnt that prone to trouble.
@rdit: i am sorry to hear of the issues you have had with Host Checker and Network Connect. I know it is is of no solace, but we do expect the upgrades to work smoothly and see that happen in most instances. There are occasional hiccups, but these are rare.
can you give examples of concerns on the stability with Host Checker & Network Connect?
@zanyterp: i dont believe that those issues are rare, just browse all the internet-forums with the questions. examples here :
nc.windows.app.23691
nc.windows.app.23704
nc.windows.app.23790
nc.windows.app.23711
nc.windows.app.23791

just to mention some of those errors. OK, if a clientfirewall is preventing NC to establish a connection, thats not an IVE-issue, but there are lots of other errors that appear sporadically. also the previously mentioned hostchecker issue. it just hangs as in this thread complained about, we have had that in different IVE OS releases and it still happens (6.3R6.1). so users need to call our helpdesk very often.
the upgrade procedure ends up in a huge chaos every time we upgrade the IVE OS. thats also because of the different client-configuration though - we know that. but lots of people are having issues and are unable to login after an IVE-update, so we avoid updating more than once in a year.
another error we are experiencing now is with IE8. after login while trying to start hostchecker the user gets the error, that the software was not signed by a trusted issuer, it gives this message 2 times, one for "JuniperSetupDLL.dll" and one for "JuniperSetupSetup.exe" (<-- weird). the user without admin-rights can only click "OK" and has no chance to sign in anymore. they have to call the helpdesk and our supportteam has to reinstall installerservice and hostchecker manually as an adminuser on that machine again. juniper installer service is installed on every machine for sure!
i dont understand why those applications are not signed....that really should not happen...
so thats what I mean by stability - every new software or change to the system impacts the functionality if the users dont have admin rights.
