HostChecker and Windows / Microsoft Update

I've Googled for a while with no luck, but hopefully someone here knows where to find the answer. We want to use HostChecker to make sure Windows Update / Microsoft Update is set to automatically download and/or install updates. Juniper has an ancient document on how to do this a thttp://www.juniper.net/techpubs/software/ive/guides/howtos/How_To_Host_Checker.pdf, but the essential part (registry key) is not readable in the garbled image. Also, I understand that the key may change between versions of windows and 32/64 bit versions of Windows. Is there any neater way to perform this check that will work for Windows XP - 7, or a list of the relevant registry keys for each platform?

Re: HostChecker and Windows / Microsoft Update

Toivo:

You can find relevant regitry keys (except windows 7) at

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328010

SA Admin guide should be able to guide you in configuring the registry checks.

P.S: I wasnt able to find the Windows 7 registry key, but will try again. If you find, please update this thread and also let us know if the above keys helped.

Thanks,

Re: HostChecker and Windows / Microsoft Update

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the keys given in that article are keys you can create in order to turn the updating on; I was hoping to find a key I can check to see the status of the automatic updating. On the XP machines I checked, even with updates turned on, the key structure

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU doesn't exist. :-(
