For a long while we've had one user with XP Pro SP2 who suddenly started getting a "no firewall" warning, literally from one day to the next it happened. Juniper support was no help because they refused to tell us what they check for and the end user does not want to do a WebEx from home at night. I'm sure it's not a big secret of Microsoft's about how to test whether the firewall is working, yet Juniper won't say what they test for. We went through everything we could find and everything confirms the XP SP2 firewall is working, right down to a port scan. BTW, the XP Security Center does say it is on.
Over the weekend the SA-2000 died. We got a replacement today and installed the same firmware 6.0R2.0 and ESAP 1-3-4. Everything restored nicely and we tried two XP Pro SP2 laptops. Both worked fine.
The one laptop was taken home by a manager where it now reports "no firewall." This person's home desktop passes the host check fine.
I just tried my laptop, also running XP Pro SP2 which has always worked. In fact it worked earlier on the day the SA-2000 died. It's now reporting no firewall. My HP desktop on the same home wireless LAN works perfectly.
Any guesses, wild or otherwise, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ray
Did the support at least ask for the clientlogs to see futher more there?
How about a local Juniper SE beeing responsible for you to push this case?
Yes, the logs were sent. All they said was that there was no firewall installed or it was turned off. It was completely non-specific. The SE is a good idea, thanks. I'll have to figure out who that is.
