Juniper SSSL VPN Virtual appliance support in 7.0

Hi All,

I read in the what's new section of ssl vpn 7.0 os. Juniper is going to launch ssl vpn virtual appliance with 7.0 os. Any idea when it's going to be launched and what are the compatible hardware for the same.

I couldnt find any other info on the same on juniper website.

Could someone please share some info on the same.

Thanks & Regards

Re: Juniper SSSL VPN Virtual appliance support in 7.0

Hi Kevin, Thanks a lot for your info. It really helped this would be a real good solution for learning the SSL vpn as well. In the current release it doesn't support clustering but i think in the future releases it will support that as well. I guess that all the other features will work on it right. Re: Juniper SSSL VPN Virtual appliance support in 7.0

Be aware that Muttbarker's URL points to the DTE, Demo and Training Edition. This appliance is fixed 2 user, and so cannot be licensed for anything more.

There's also the SPE - Service Provider Edition - VA that can be downloaded, and also cannot be clustered.

By the way, you should ask yourself why you would want to cluster a VA: almost all of clustering functionality can be obtained by using push config and/or the underlying hypervisor's VM move facilities (in this specific case VMotion).

I really don't expect clustering to be incorporated in the VA editions, unless customers really really really want demand it. Smiley Very Happy

Best regards,

Re: Juniper SSSL VPN Virtual appliance support in 7.0

Hey Alex - thanks for the clarification - I almost posted both links, but I am working on the assumption that most people would want the non SP version.

As for the comment about clustering - I do think it would be of value to have the ability to "cluster" the demo versions and was even thinking of posting a comment on Kevin's blog about it.

As a reseller I think that it would be quite helpful from a training perspective. We don't run clustered SA boxes except at customer sites so when I want to test / train on that I end up having to borrow boxes which can be challenging. So selfishly, I would like it Smiley Happy

Agreed, that would be just the thing you would want in a DTE. OK, now I'm selfish too! Smiley Very Happy

Re: Juniper SSSL VPN Virtual appliance support in 7.0

I wonder if in the long term there will be plans to offer a virtual appliance as a direct replacement for some of the existing SA units.

Due to the cost of the licences, I am now looking at alternatives to the IVE so I have a solution in case of DR.

Having a virtual appliance would have allowed me to replicate this to our DR site (we run vSphere with mirrored SANs).

Have you setup a virtual appliance? Do you have a good documented procedure on how to do it?

Re: Juniper SSSL VPN Virtual appliance support in 7.0

I have setup a virtual appliance - it was pretty straightforward. I am a totally dummy when it comes to VMWare ESX and only run it cause I have to be able to do things like run the SA Appliance, Junos Space the Junos Virtual FW.

I am running ESX 4.1 and I got the image from the web site and followed the install instructions as written and it came up just like a real appliance.

Re: Juniper SSSL VPN Virtual appliance support in 7.0

Good morning,

Along the same thread, I'm trying to find Installation Documentation for the Virtual Appliance. Specifically Hyper-V capabilities. I know VMware works, but is Hyper-V supported also, and if so, what image does my customer use?
