Juniper sells SSL-VPN - what a sad day

Wow - it finally happened. Juniper had to go and dump one of their most effective tools to introduce enterprise customers to the company known as Juniper Networks. One of my engineers is out doing an install today of a boatload of EX switches at one of our new customers that we aquired using just that strategy.

I cut my teeth on this product with Juniper and just could not disagree more with this divestment. Every other major FW vendor has integrated SSL into their core product. Juniper sells of their SSL solution. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Talk about awkward as I watch him happily configuring new users on his MAG while configuring those EX stacks too...

What a bad move by Juniper. I see us losing a lot of SRX deals now because of the lack of (decent) remote access VPN, too.

So any idea what that means for the product?

I mean we just purchased 2 MAG2600s that aren't even in full production yet.

Well the purchaser is a private equity firm that invests in technology. So I would guess that their objective is continue to improve and grow the product and then sell it off down the road based on some of their prior purchases. But that is nothing more than a giant SWAG.

Yeah, definitely is a odd move. It would be interesting to see what their thoughts are on this as it relates to the SRX platform in the future and what they have planned.

What continues to bother me about this is that Juniper is yet to officially communicate this to their customer base, well soon to be former customer base. Seems our VAR is finding this out the same time as we are. They are now scrambling to get in touch with juniper to understand what this transition will look like. You'd hope these things would be worked out sooner rather than later.
