Junos Pulse 5.0r1 seems to break MS Surface Tablet

I've run through this twice now on a test unit with the same ruslts.  The second time I restored to factory default and patched all the way before installing Pulse.  After installing Pulse 5.0r1 on a Surface Tablet with Windows 8.1 the client seems to be installed correctly.  After the first reboot the touch interface is no longer responsive.  You can plug in a keyboard and get Access that way.  The client Uninstall hangs on removing Junos Pulse at removing the drivers.  When in an error state Device Manager doesn't show any issues.  I'm working on doing more testing Monday but this is an FYI.  I havn't yet begun the process of opening a TAC.

Hello Matt,

We are aware of issues with the Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 and we are working on how to resolve these issues.  At this point, I would suggest using the "Windows In-the-box" plug-in as the Pulse library are pre-installed with Windows 8.1.  This should allow you to access an SA device without having to install the standalone Pulse client until we have a resolution.

is there a KB on thisissue?  I researched this issue a few days back when it was first reported and didnt find references.  These type of client disabling bugs need to be highlighted so support personel sont burn incident response time.

We are working internally to resolve this issue. I will post the KB once this has been made public.

What functionality do we lose by using the bult-in VPN client?  Do things like Location Awareness and Host Checker work with the built in client?

Thank you.

There is limited host checking capabilities; I believe location awareness is successful. We will have to try to test it this week & get back to you

Any update on this?  Does Host Checker work with the built in 8.1 VPN client?

Thank you.

Re: Junos Pulse 5.0r1 seems to break MS Surface Tablet

I have totally given up on using Pulse along with my Surface Pro 2.

Between the fact that Pulse hoses up the Touch/Type covers, touchscreen, wireless and the general incompatbilities with Windows 8.1, it's just not worth the trouble at this point.

Pretty disappointing to, considering Surface Pro's are killer little devices. Awesome form factor, powerful and very versitle.

We are still running some tests against the latest build (5.0R3) with Surface Pro / Pro 2, but they look good.  Once this release is public, I will update the thread accordingly.
