Network Connect lags in "Waiting for network"

As the title says, when the user logs in with his credentials, the plugin lags in 'waiting for network'. I did check in the user access logs and in the events logs but did not find a reason has to why it suddenly happens.
Maybe I was searching in the wrong place to find the cause.....

Can anyone help me out here?

Is the warning on the VPN tunnel (inside Network Connect) or an external indicator about network connectivity?
I would suggest checking on if there is a start script scheduled to run when the client is launched; if yes, ask if that can be removed for testing as that can cause a delay in the tunnel setup
