Offline files in windows 7

HI all

I have an issue that I think involves Offline Files caching in Windows 7.  Three users (2 are in the same role, 1 is in a different role) all connect fine.  They launch Network Connect and when they try to open their My Documents from the desktop (ACL allows it), all the folders/files have grey X's and if they try to open the message says that it's either not there or they don't have permission.  I had one of them log into a test laptop and then connect and everything was fine.  Which makes me think the issue is local to those machines (not an issue with my VPN config), but I'm really not sure what or if there's a workaround .

I searched the forums and found an old posting about something with offline files, but nothing recent.

Any ideas?

Re: Offline files in windows 7

As Natasha notes, the default sync for my documents redirection is at log off and allows the user to stop the process if they don't want to wait.  So the grey files have not been copied.

When you locate your group policy for redirection change the setting from sync at log off to Background File Synchronization.

Or the user could just allow the sync to finish.

Re: Offline files in windows 7

Hi Casey,

We had this issue as well when we rolled out Win 7. In my environment it did indeed turn out to be a Win 7 issue, and not a VPN issue. The users were not synchronising fully when they came in or left the office. We had to change the Win 7 settings to force a sync after log on and before log off. This resolved the issue for them.

Hope that helps.
