PULSE in WINE

Just curious if anyone out there has ever attempted or been successful at making any version of the Pulse client function via WINE in Linux.

Nope, I just use network connect.

Run it manually on the CLI though. Oracle has managed to **bleep** over java once again. It consumes loads of memory, takes long to start and then does absolutely *nothing*. Huray for java 7.

Besides that it comes with the added advantage I can just logon to the admin section of the SA whilst I have my VPN open. Otherwise cookies prevent this (unless you run multiple separate browsers).

Why would you want pulse in the first place? Anything in particular it adds for you?

Pulse is setup on our system because it does work quite well with Windows....but the decideing factor was more along the lines of how well it really does play with iOS. Soooo many people in our organization now have ipads and so the higher ups like the ability it gives (to their ipads).....NC dosent work on an Apple anything.

But at the same time we do have a small handful of developers and engineers that are big Debian users that get left in the dust that arn't very happy about it.

I find it very annoying that you can only go either NC or Pulse where one will work with linux, the other wont.... and the one will work with Apple... the other won't but the two cannot coexist without having two seperate SA's and thats a little rediculous. I really hope that if Juniper is serious about Pulse being the direction they are going in they finally realize there are Linux users out there and the number is growing... myself being one as well. Meh... thought if there was a way to emulate it with Wine that might be a viable solution.

You can run Pulse and NC on the same device, you just need two seperate roles.

nope, you can run both on the same endpoint (not at the same time, of course), depending on your role access. 

network connect works just fine on apple devices; on the Mac it is called Network Connec and on iOS it is called Pulse.

The Pulse Mobile client and Pulse Desktop client share the same name but different access mechanisms under the hood; the iOS role, for example, is configured for Network Connect administratively.
