Ping through WSAM

I'm wondering why I can't get an ICMP echo through W-SAM using my XP workstation neither by making PING.EXE a SAM Client Application nor by specifing a SAM WSAM Destination. I can TELNET the destination host through WSAM but I can't PING it.

From what I understood, W-SAM is tying into the IP stack by using the Transport Driver Interface (TDI). So shouldn't it catch ICMP also as ICMP is part of IP?

Re: Ping through WSAM

ICMP is part of IP, that is true. But that won't make ping just go through your WSAM proxy. WSAM has to have a match on either application or destination, else it will leave it 'untouched'.

Now I'm wondering though, if I can add ICMP as a protocol match in WSAM....

Re: Ping through WSAM

Well, in reply to myself: no, you cannot do this.

ICMP is a protocol among TCP and UDP, and WSAM matches only TCP or UDP destinations - or otherwise, by match of the running executable.

Now I wonder if there's a DLL for ICMP that may be an executable match... or shall I stop here? :-)

Re: Ping through WSAM

WSAM cant be used to secure ICMP traffic (even if the executable or destination is defined in the Configs)
