Re: SA2500 7.1r6 -> Windows 8 RDP and Citrix Proxy

So far, I've only been able to duplicate this problem on wireless.

Re: SA2500 7.1r6 -> Windows 8 RDP and Citrix Proxy

Chris,

I am a Juniper Technical Support Engineer and am aware of multiple customers reporting this issue with Windows 8, however, we have not been able to replicate the issue in-house, except over wireless when the signal is weak, which I believe is a false positive.  One thing that may be different about the Win 8 laptop we have tried replicating this with (using both Win 8 Pro and Win 8 Enterprise) is that it was not upgraded from a previous version of Windows as was posted by another user in this thread who seemed think this might be the problem.  Can you confirm if the same is true in your case?  Are these machines running Win 8 as a fresh install or have they been upgraded from a previous version of Windows?

Also, it is possible that this issue is not specifically a Juniper issue and that the problem exists in the Win 8 OS itself.  I have read some blogs about Win 8 users seeing this issue using the native built-in RDP client in Windows.  Can you test this to see if the native Win 8 RDP client exhibits the same disconnecting/reconnecting behavior as it does using the Juniper WTS client?

Thanks,

-Karen

Re: SA2500 7.1r6 -> Windows 8 RDP and Citrix Proxy

I haven't checked this thread in a while, as I was able to use the workaround with the Windows 7 VM, so sorry for the late reply! As we can only check the issue when there's a new (private) Windows 8 PC trying to connect information is sparse but here's the info from my private machine (tower PC) as well as a HP All-In-One Pavillion PC

- fresh install (no upgrade) / preinstalled Win 8

- wired only (Tower PC) and wireless

- I have only checked RDP to a locally run Hyper-V VM, no issues (this is the way I work remotely via Juniper atm)

- what I'm planning to do: install a Windows 8 VM to check if the issue remains. If not that could point to network drivers as the VM would use the virtual network adapter (which works without issues in the Win 7 VM).

I'm happy to try other stuff if you have any suggestions.

Re: SA2500 7.1r6 -> Windows 8 RDP and Citrix Proxy

I've been testing on a fresh install of Windows 8 using 7.3R2.  I opened two RDP sessions on the same computer.  The first one is opened using the terminal services client and the second one is opened with the native RDP client going through network connect.  These are conections to the same server logged in with different accounts.  The one going through the Juniper TS client will disconnect while the native RDP client keeps working fine.

Re: SA2500 7.1r6 -> Windows 8 RDP and Citrix Proxy

I've also experienced the same issue with RDP and Citrix clients on Windows 8. Don't see any error messages?

The users that have experienced the issue are home users with Windows 8 installed from manufacture Dell and HP.

One more side note both were Windows 8 home users.

Re: SA2500 7.1r6 -> Windows 8 RDP and Citrix Proxy

Good to know about Windows 8 Home users.  We haven't tried replicating it with Windows 8 Home yet but I plan to next.

Are Windows 8 Home users seeing the problem with wired connections as well as wireless?

Re: SA2500 7.1r6 -> Windows 8 RDP and Citrix Proxy

While working with another site today, I received another option: are you using portal mode or desktop mode? There is one site that the issue replicates only via portal mode and does not happen for desktop mode.

Re: SA2500 7.1r6 -> Windows 8 RDP and Citrix Proxy

We were experiencing similar problems with RDP on a handful of Windows 8  machines with 7.3r1 and 7.3r2, but it seems to have been  resolved for us with an upgrade to 7.3r3.
