We got a report this morning from a user that can no longer launch Network Connect from a non-IE browser after updating Java on their Windows 7 PC to version 7 Update 60.
Replicated on a Windows 8.1 x64 laptop; symptoms are as follows:
1. Network Connect can still be launched via IE through ActiveX
2. Standalone NC application still works and can connect
If NC is *NOT* installed:
3. Launching Network Connect through a non-IE browser (tested Chrome and FF) kicks off the following:
- Juniper Setup Applet launches and asks permission to run; agree to run it
- Windows brings up a Security Warning for confirmation to allow the Juniper Setup Applet to run; "Allow" and also set to not prompt again
- Network Connect 7.4.0 installer is launched and installs the application
- NC is launched and connects
If NC *IS* installed:
3. Launching Network Connect through a non-IE browser (tested Chrome and FF) downloads JuniperSetupClientInstaller.exe and present a page indicating that Java needs to be installed.
4. Opting to continue ("Once Java is installed and enabled, please click here to continue") just loops back to #3 and downloads JuniperSetupClientInstaller.exe again.
5. Opting to skip Host Checker ("Please click here to login to the realms without Host Checker") does the same; loops back to #3 and downloads JuniperSetupClientInstaller.exe again.
6. Only other option is to "go back".
This seems to be isolated to checks done on the client for Java being present for NC to be launched since if NC is NOT installed it gets installed and launched properly.
Platform is SA 4500 running 7.4R9.1 (build 30599).
Confirmed we're seeing the same behaviour on a MAG cluster running 7.4R9.1 (build 30599).
It sounds like an issue with Java delivery of the setup client. Please open a case and provide the debuglog.log from the client machine for further review to determine the root cause.
