We have a MAG appliance configured as a License server, with 3 SA 2500 SSL appliances as clients. The SA 2500's have surrendered their licenses to the license server.
What I want to know is how the license leasing works. We have 200 licenses that are pooled between 3 devices and I assumed the appliance would be able to auto lease a single license when they require it, however it looks like it has a minimum lease amount of 25 licenses. Is there any way around this as I would much rather only lease single licenses where they are required.
Leasing is only done in increments of at least 25 user licenses. This is to avoid constant chatter between the license client and server.
Interesting - I lease licenses in quantities of less than 25. I don't know what the minimum is but I have lease quantities of 12 on multiple boxes.
Yes, there seems to be an equation going on when seting the max limit. If I set max limit to 12 and reserved count to 3, then it says the increment must be 9. This is the message I get from the UI:
difference between reserved count (3) and maximum limit (12) is less than the normally required minimum incremental count 25 - incremental count must be equal to this difference (9)
Increment could be less than 25, but this means the max limit is less than 25. However, if the max is less than 25, it will only allow to increment once so it will simply do the following equation:
Max Count - Reserved count = Increment count
