We have seen issues with passwords using special symbols (non usa keyboard) failing on active sync. These same passwords work on VPN. Active sync is a reverse proxy to mail.company.com. That is the same as OWA which authenticates to AD instead of reverse proxy. So they both hit the internal CAS server

does the same behavior occur if you have encoding set to a different country?
do the same characters work if you use the usa keyboard?
