Standard AV on HomeComputers

We recently increased the # of people that can access our network and hence published a set of instructions with the necessary requirements to connect. These included an extensive list of the 'approved' AntiVirus applications.

I quickly learned that there are WAY more apps and versions in use than I could imagine....

I'm basically looking for some Best Practice examples on this issue:

1.) Do you limit your home users to the 'approved' list? Or do you keep adding exceptions?

OR

2.) Do you provide them a link to one of the free 'approved' apps (ie-AVGFree) and have them install that?

Thanks!

Both 1 and 2 are acceptable but try moving away from the specific version and choose vendors for the host checker policy.

Re: Standard AV on HomeComputers

We don't do an "approved" list, we do a recommended list, and we limit what users have access to. That way if they are infected, there's a lot less chance they'll bring it in.. We limit by port, application, and destination.
