I have an SA-2000 with 6.5R3.1.
My terminal server clients are unable to print - both client and server have Uniprint installed, which works locally, or through a simple NAT'ed address (i.e. bypassing the VPN). Connecting through the VPN it doesn't work, which I'm assuming is because the Terminal Server REsource Profile, which they're in, is set up for port 3389. That is, whatever port(s) UniPrint might be using are probably not getting passed through the VPN.
Anyone else run into this? Solutions?
I'm sure you have you confirmed this, but I have run into many who have not: are both printers and clipboard sharing enabled on the bookmark and role options? If both locations and settings are not enabled (so all 4 settings) are not true, printers will not connect.
You need to allow clipboard sharing in order for the other devices, such as printers, to connect.
Are those needed for UniPrint? The whole point of UniPrint is getting away from installing a bunch of printer drivers on the server - we've had terminal servers crash before due to flaky print drivers, and have been Uniprint for the past several years successfully, both within the WAN and through simple firewall "holes" to allow inbound connections directly to the terminal servers.
We'd prefer to use the VPN device, but need to use UniPrint for printing within those RDP sessions.
UniPrint itself uses Terminal Services' virtual channels which does not require any additional ports open to work. Virtual channel are integrated into the RDP datastream, so if you can connect and get a session, the channel should work. I don't believe that we require to have printer or clipboard redirection enabled to be able to print through UniPrint.
Do you get an error dialog in the session when you try to print? If so, do you have the channel DLL registered on your client machine? You can check this by looking at the 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default\AddIns' key to see if there is a Subkey for the UniPrint virtual channel driver. The easiest way to create this is to have the UniPrint Client installed.
If it's not the client side, is LogScrpt.exe running in the user's session?
