I'm in a hotel in China and I have Pulse Secure VPN access provided two different U.S. universities. With University A, I have full access to Google, Twitter, and the other things usually blocked by China's GFW. With University B, none of these sites are accessible. This is with the same wifi connection in the room, toggling between the two Pulse Secure connections. Any ideas why one university's VPN isn't blocked but the other's is?
I would guess that University A is routing all your traffic back to their network and thus you browse the full internet out their ip address space and location.
While University B is using split tunneling and only transporting the ip space for university resources over the VPN and not providing your general internet access. Thus your browsing is still in China.
