Update to 7.0 r4 (Latest rev)

Just wondering if anyone has any input on whether or not it is possible to jump from 6.5R3.1 (build 15255) straight to the latest rev and has anyone had any issues with the latest release?

Re: Update to 7.0 r4 (Latest rev)

There is documentation on how to upgrade, as a best practice you should hit 7.0 first and then upgrade to 7.0r4 there are several major changes from 6.5 to 7 so testing would be important.

with that said, i jumped from 6.5 to 7 and then to r4 and di not have any issues, but every environment is unique.

Re: Update to 7.0 r4 (Latest rev)

I'm also interested on feedback on upgrades to 7.0R4. JTAC's recommendation is currently 7.0R4 but my ability to test before upgrade is very limited (only have one box). I run 6.5R3.1 today. Has anyone bumped into any issues upgradeing from 6.5x to 7.0X?

Re: Update to 7.0 r4 (Latest rev)

We have a test and production box. The test box upgraded fine from 6.5. Our production box the power has to be pulled after rebooting it every time but it has been in production now for a few weeks with no issues.

Although it is recommended to upgrade to 7.0 from 6.5r3.1 and then to v7.0r4.....but we had our development box upgraded from 6.5r3.1 directly to v7.0r4 and there are no issues yet for a span of 1 month now.

All you have to make sure that once a remote reboot is triggered, please hold on for a few more minutes for the device to restart, it sometimes takes longer than expected...but it will.

Another thing is to make sure all the changes that you had done before upgrade are still in tact after upgrade too.
We had found that 2 of our config changes were missing even when we had applied the changes.

If this worked for you please flag my post as an "Accepted Solution" so others can benefit. A kudo would be cool if you think I earned it.

Re: Update to 7.0 r4 (Latest rev)

Looking to go to 7.0R4.0 as well from 6.5R2.0, I see many mentioning Juniper best practice is go to 7.0R1.0 first and go to R4.0 after. I see mention of people going straight to 7.0R4.0 from 6.5R3.1 without issue has anyone done 6.5R2.0 without issue.

Re: Update to 7.0 r4 (Latest rev)

I would definitely NOT upgrade to 7.0R1 and then to 7.0RX - Here is why. You cannot downgrade from 7.X to 6.X. The configuration file is different and these type of downgrades are not supported.

I ran into an issue where Citrix was breaking badly with 7.0R1 and I was told to go to 7.0R2. Guess what? Didn't help. But now I couldn't rollback to 6.5X. Smiley Sad The only solution to go back to 6.5X was to rebuild the box and use the backup files to restore!

Good luck!

Re: Update to 7.0 r4 (Latest rev)

that was my biggest concern was rollback, as if I follow their prefered route I will only be able to get back to 7.0R1.0 which I never trust an R1.0 of anything.
