Upgrading to 6.5R2 from 6.4R1 Questions

I'm just wondering if anyone has recently upgraded going this path. I am planning to upgrade my Juniper OS to 6.5R2 and wanted to see if there was anything anyone ran into during this process. Other then doing a backup of the system config and user config is there anything else required just to be on the safe side. I know it will carry all of those settings over once the OS is upgraded.

Any more detail about fix for  memory leaking on 6.4 R4?

Re: Upgrading to 6.5R2 from 6.4R1 Questions

I think the update ran pretty nice on my boxes, only issues I ended up running into was dealing with end users that don't have admin rights on their PCs it seems the 6.5R2 Host Checker needed them.  Any idea if they will ever offer a Host Checker Package that can do a silent install without requiring admin rights?

Re: Upgrading to 6.5R2 from 6.4R1 Questions

None of your settings will be changed; as long as the version you're upgrading from is supported (and 6.4 is definitely supported for upgrading to 6.5) then everything will be maintained when it upgrades.

The only thing I would caution on would be upgrading to such an early revision of a version. If you look in the release notes, 6.5R2 has a long list of fixes from 6.5R1 which makes me personally prefer to wait until 6.5R3 because that doesn't sound very stable to me... but then I see you're on 6.4R1 which is about as unstable as they come so I guess it should be better than what you're doing now. Over the past 3 years of supporting SA devices, I've come to the conclusion that: You NEVER upgrade to R1 releases (been biten way too many times by undocumented issues) and you do not upgrade to R2 releases unless you REALLY need/want to. R3 and above are normally pretty good... although I'm on 6.4R4 and it's still pretty unstable so I'm not sure anymore.

Re: Upgrading to 6.5R2 from 6.4R1 Questions

I need to upgrade as Windows 7 support has been a hot topic and I have a lot of external vendors who of course never buy older machines so it's just a matter of time before people order new PCs for the vendors and Windows 7 will come on them and they won't want to pay for the downgrade route to go to XP just to be able to have VPN access or Vista. I will probably look at upgrading to R3 once released as the R2 only provides Windows 7 Ent as a supported version and all the others are compatible but for the moment Windows 7 is something I need to add.

Re: Upgrading to 6.5R2 from 6.4R1 Questions

Hi,

I discovered today that Active Sync defined in an virtual IVE - not the root-IVE - stops working. I have an open JTAC case now, but no results yet.

What is unstable about 6.4R4?

Yeah if 6.4R4 had Windows 7 official support I would stick to the 6.4 level. I have a lot of external vendors and internal IT people that are currently using Vista & 7 for testing and need remote access to systems so thats my need for moving to 6.5R2.

I have to reboot my IVE's weekly to avoid a memory leak that will eventually cause the web UI to stop responding and not let anyone new log in. Have an open ticket with Juniper, confirmed a bug in the code... still waiting for a fix.

What part of Windows 7 isn't supported in 6.4? I have Windows 7 users running WSAM without issues... the only thing I had to do was create a custom rule for detecting Windows 7 in Host Checker.
