Webconnect portal - launching pulse secure client

If you allow your users to launch the Pulse Secure client from the WebConnect portal, how does that work exactly?  Is there a custom browser plug-in being used or is Java used?  Since browsers don't allow the launch of local executables natively, our security team is concerned about a mechanism that bypasses this restriction.

It depends on the version you are using and the client you are using.
If you are using IE, ActiveX is used to deploy
If you are using non-IE on Windows _OR_ Safari on the Mac AND on 8.2 or higher, it uses a custom application/browser plugin called Pulse Secure Application Launcher that needs to be installed for the launch to complete (the prompt is part of the first launch attempt)
If you are using pre-8.2 and not using IE the client is delivered using Java
