MAG have a modular architecture and is the successor of SA family.

SA is the old one and MAG the new one, it is not more complicated than that.

One remarkable difference is that MAG do not support IVS (virtual systems).

Juniper removed the IVS from the MAG and replaced it with a Service Provider Virtual Machine offering. IVS was really designed for service provider type companies who wanted to offer the SSL solution to multiple customers using a single piece of hardware.

There is no benefit to not having IVS - it is simply that an IVS type solution is now offered via VM based implemention.
