We have seen a few users who have issues with dscachecleaner taking up 50% of the CPU cycles on the pc. What we have noticed is that dscachecleaner starts even when the user is not using the SSL VPN. This situation is occuring for a handful of users out of over 10,000 users. We are running version 6.3R3 and in the process of upgrading to 6.3R4. I have a case open with JTAC but right now we are stumped as to what is causing the issue. Our users are running Windows XP sp2 and sp3. We have done the basics of removing all the Juniper Components, removing the directories, removing Reg entries. That takes care of the issue until the next time the user connects to the SSL VPN.
We are having the users end the process manually as this does slow down MS Outlook and MS communicator.
Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks,
Tim
Hey Tim,
Any resolve on high CPU/Memory Utilization ?
Billy
I have the same problem. if anyone has any ideas or solutions, it would be a big help.
thanks.
Has anyone gotten anywhere with this? It is happening to a few users here; so far I've been instructing users to End Process in Task Manager when it loads automatically when they are not connecting thru VPN. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled it but no success.
Same issue here. If you look in the registry under the users profile do you see the same entry I see?
I don't have this in my user hive. I'll remove and see what happens.
And Juniper can't figure this out????

I am an end user on corporate VPN, Juniper v 6.5. I use a Lenovo ThinkPad x61 tablet, XP SP3, Norton Antivirus 2009. Once Cache Cleaner installed from corporate SSL VPN gateway, dscache cleaner uses 50% of my 2GB of RAM. Once activated, this continues whether or not VPN connection is up, continues despite:
computer reboot,
complete uninstall of all Juniper products and Norton antivirus, then reinstall Juniper.
At times, Task Manager processes shows two dscachecleaners, each using 49-50% of CPU for 100% total.
Only way I know to eliminate is to End Process in Task Manager, or to remove Cache Cleaner completely using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Have checked, rechecked for viruses and find nothing. Once installed and running, dscache cleaner continues even if my computer disconnected from all networks.
Any suggestions appreciated. From this thread, it appears this problem is alive and well from at least 2007-2010, with no solutions published, and no common risk factors identified.
Tim, in my humble opinion you have made a great contribution by posting this. I am a physician who has spent 8-10 hours of time trying to find out what was wrong with my personal computer. In my network of 15,000 corporate users, I have been told by the network system administrators that I am the sole user who has this problem and, therefore, it is a problem with my personal computer that I must personally fix. I have doubled my RAM, doubled my hard drive, removed and reinstalled many programs, and was about to turn my notebook over to a professional computer repair shop for a week to find the bug or virus, or something. Your note came in the nick of time. I can go back to my regular job taking care of patients. I will see when our network will be installing 6.5R4. We are currently using 6.5.0.
Perhaps of interest to anybody: when I doubled my RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB, dscachecleaner continued to use exactly 50% of the total CPU.
Thank you!
