SCCM Task Sequence UDI - Failed to install Pulse Secure Desktop Client

Hi all,

I am trying to install Pulse Secure Desktop Client version 9.1r8.0-b3143 as an application in an UDI Task Sequence in Configuration Manager.

OS version is Windows 10 Pro N version 20H2.

The "Install Applications" step is in the "State Restore" group. Before the "State Restore" group, I've got the "Post Install" group, including the "Apply Network Settings" of OS where I join the machine to the domain.

I correctly created the application in Configuration Manager and, I was able to deploy it through various deployments to devices.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work through a Task Sequence, and I don't know why.

I did a installation log. I am getting the following error at some point :

Info 1721.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action: StopPulseTray.A3419F89_923B_4BF7_A233_BB3995E06714, location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Pulse Secure\JamUI\, command: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Pulse Secure\JamUI\pulse.exe" -stop

and that's the end of the log :

Anyone can help on this please? I don't understand how that can fail.

Thanks!

Re: SCCM Task Sequence UDI - Failed to install Pulse Secure Desktop Client

@csignore  This looks similar to an error I got with Intune. Are you upgrading clients, or is this a brand new install?

My problem was that as Pulse was already installed and running, the MSI file would bomb out because it tried to call a command to stop Pulse, but that command didn't work. I ended up using a script with taskkill  pulse*, to stop Pulse, and then call the the MSI file.

May not be your issue, just looked similar
