Upgrading to client 9.1.11 with Intune

Hi all,

When trying to upgrade clients from Pulse 9.1.10 to 9.1.11 via Intune, the upgrade will fail if the Pulse client is running.

The Pulse icon in the bottom right will disappear , but then Intune says the Pulse upgrade failed.

If I retry the process with Pulse not running, the upgrade will work fine?

This only seems to work when deploying via Intune as I can run the install command via the command line locally.

I see other people have had issues with Pulse updating. Is there a command line I can use to stop Pulse before trying to upgrade?

Ah,

So this is what is causing it to not install. The Juniper Networks is an old folder and doesn't exist anymore, so at the very least it should have a catch for this and ignore it. I have logged a call with support. Just feels like Pulse is rushing too much now with the secuirty issues.

Product: Pulse Secure -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action exe_def_StopAllPulseProcesses, location: C:\WINDOWS\Installer\MSIF439.tmp, command: /Stop /ProcessName pulse.exe /FilePathToRun "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Juniper Networks\JamUI\pulse.exe" /CLIArgsForProcess -stop

Hello. I am having the same exact problem as you.

I am using Intune to push the updated client from 9.1 R8.X to 9.1 R11.4 and am seeing the same error message.

Did support say anything to you yet?

Re: Upgrading to client 9.1.11 with Intune

Hi @ri1 , no, the inital response was that it was something on my side. I then sent them logs showing it failing to install when Pulse is running and working fine when Pulse was stopped. Nothing back so far.

you should be able to stop pulse using the jamCommand /stop argument. if intune can control services, you can also stop the pulse service and it should quit pulse.

Re: Upgrading to client 9.1.11 with Intune

Thanks @zanyterp , in the end, I used Intune to uninstall Pulse 9.1.10 before installing 9.1.11

I might try and use the "taskkill Pulse*" in the script and see if that works.

It would be good if we didn't have to though.

you are welcome; glad you were able to find a solution that is functioning (even though less than ideal)
