I'm running Pulse Secure on macOS (version 9.1.8), and when trying to connect to a VPN server, I run into this generic "Network error" message. When observing the traffic using Wireshark, it seems that the TLS handshake finished fine, but is immediately terminated by the client. This snippet from the logs seems to suggest a certificate chain error, but this is as far as I'm getting:
... 'dsssl' External certificate chain function denied cert 0 'http_connection' Returning DSHTTP_ERROR from state_ssl_connect 'http_connection' do_connect error: state 5, err 5 'iftProvider' HTTP connection failed 5 100005 'iveConnectionMethod' Setting state to retry-connect 'iveConnectionMethod' Error Connecting channel. Stage 514 Error 9 0x9 'iveConnectionMethod' Queuing schedule retry 9 0 'WorkQueue' Queued work unit 3 'iftProvider' iftProvider:roviderThread exiting ...
Any suggestion of how to fix this?
I am running macOS Big Sur (11.2.1), and installed the Pulse client via the web page provided by the organsation whose VPN server I am trying to connect to.
In the process of looking further in the problem, I have encountered another problem I am trying to solve first; coming back to this problem later if it still persists.
I managed to get Pulse Secure back to the state in which I get the same original error. Yes, the URL uses `https'.
I have been fiddling a bit with the Keychain settings, changing the `trust' of the client certificate and the CA certificates, and moving the certificaets between the `system' keychain and the `login' keychain. No luck there unfortunately.
