Re: Accelerating SAP Netweaver

Yes, it really depends of the content delivered by the Netweaver application  and where load time bottleneck occurs...

Aptimizer accelerates the front-end performance (load time between server and web browser), while this is typically  80-90% of the total load time for webpages, this may not be the case for Netweaver or your particular deployment ...

Netweaver Load times can be significantly degraded by poor application and database performance , e.g. slow DB queries to populate forms data and inadequate hardware causing sluggish server performance. In these cases the bottle neck is on the server side , also called "Time to first byte" and Web Accelerator (Aptimizer) may not be able to provide a noticeable difference due to the severe back-end performance  - Server load would times remain slow and render any front-end optimization insignificant.

I recommend inspecting load times using a network trace tool (e.g. IE dev tools, firebug, fiddler or HTTPWatch) and identifying the bottle neck is in Time to first byte vs Front end loading

Re: Accelerating SAP Netweaver

Yes, See the deployment guide from Paul Wallace Stingray Traffic Manager and SAP NetWeaver Deployment Guide Specifically, Web Accelerator (Aptimizer) results depend on the content delivered and should be configured for your application.

The functionality of SteelApp can be easily tested with two options for free. A fully functional Developer Edition which needs no license, limited to 1 Mbps/100 SSL tps throughput. Alternatively, an unlimited 30 day license, with technical support from SteelApp-trained consultants during your evaluation period to test SteelApp software with your application.

Re: Accelerating SAP Netweaver

thanks armand,

i like the idea and will dig deeper into the back end servers. I do suspect not only net weaver tends to have chatty-type portal but also a pretty slow or large dB. Im guessing the app-dev must setup as default...
