Are you sure they are using AVG 8.0? I am also using ESAP 1.4.7 and I've found that the recent AVG update to 8.5 does not pass Host Checker, but 8.0 still does. I like AVG, but it's becoming too much of a hassle to use with the Juniper VPN. Can anyone recommend a good free alternative that doesn't have problems with the Juniper VPN?

The only problem we've encountered with 1.4.5 so far is that we had to turn off Host Checker's AntiVirus rule's optional setting "Virus Definition files should not be older than Updates." We had turned it on and set it to 10 updates. But people with up-to-date definition files were not passing Host Checker. But that's an issue for another thread.

Yes and no. It appears to pass Host Checker for XP users, but not for Vista users, from the tests I've had my users run. And there is still a known issue with it passing the firewall check.

I got it a couple of days ago because of a support ticket I had regarding Norton AV 2009. It was supposed to be generally available today, however. Perhaps they just haven't updated the site?

AVG 8 Free Edition appears to be working with ESAP 1.4.5. I believe it is also working in 1.4.4. It's interesting that they haven't made any mention of AVG in the release notes for the last few releases.

I installed and activated 1.4.5 on our test VPN server. (The release notes say that it supports Norton AntiVirus 2009 (v16).) I didn't change any settings. I then asked the affected users to test it. Here are the results: - Windows XP users: PASSED Host Checker - Windows Vista users: FAILED Host Checker So, we're almost there. I've updated my support ticket regarding this matter. Last week I got an update on my ticket saying Engineering was targeting the fix for this in ESAP 1.4.5, due at the end of Dec. (2008).

I just updated to ESAP 1.4.2 (it came out yesterday), and AVG 8 Free Edition is working now for me. We are also using IVE 6.3R1.1, though I don't think that makes a difference (it didn't help with 1.4.0 and 1.4.1). The Release Notes make no mention of changes to AVG support.

I've got a support ticket in, and apparently it's been escalated to the engineers. I'll update here when there's a solution. I've also advised our users not to upgrade their Norton AV until we get the issue resolved.

I've got users who have upgraded to Norton 2009 products, and now they can't connect to the VPN. This is not good, as it is critical to our business. Can anyone from Juniper tell us when the new Norton products will be supported? Or is there another location on the Juniper site that has this info? And how do we prevent this recurring problem, besides telling users not to upgrade or buy new software? Thanks.

Platform: SA4000 IVE: 6.2R1 (Build 13255) ESAP: 1.4.0 I'm using AVG 8.0 Free Edition (8.0.138). When we were using ESAP 1.3.9, I could pass Host Checker's security check and sign in to our VPN. But since we updated the ESAP to 1.4.0, I now cannot pass the security check, with the Reason string saying, "Compliance requires latest virus definition files." Nothing else has changed on the VPN, and my AVG virus definitions are current. I've noticed the Reason string also says: "AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0.134 does not comply with policy." However, my AVG is version 8.0.138. I had auto-remediation turned on. AVG would repeatedly check for updates until I closed the browser, so I turned it off for AVG. Auto-remeditation is a nice feature, but it should only try it once. I'd like to get this to work since we recommend AVG to our sales reps, because it's free and up until now has been trouble-free. I have gone back to ESAP 1.3.9, but I'd like to keep current. Any ideas?
